This video shows a warm-up activity I did with my ESL lower-intermediate 2 students on “Kahoot”. The activity was operated in an online class.
All the questions were about technology terms and facts. Some of the questions also included new vocabulary that needed to be covered in this unit.
I chose to put them in the activity implicitly instead of teaching them directly. After this Kahoot activity, I put them into breakout rooms to finish a task that requires the use of those vocabularies in pairs.
The theme for this unit is job and career. Most of the students in the class are working people so they are passionate and thoughtful on this topic.
This activity began with the authentic and meaningful input of a video interview. Then, students competed with their classmates by playing Nearpod's "time to climb" game to verify whether or not they understood the contents. Afterward, for the first round of the speaking task, they interviewed their partners using the sentence structure: "How do you feel about......? "And they practiced pronunciation at the same time. For the second round, they suggested a job to each other using all the information they had interviewed. They were asked to keep the dialogue going by asking follow-up questions.
